When power-surge occurs, the output voltage and current of transformer will increase or decrease on a sudden, which will burn out the device or shut it off. Either is not good to the device. With PoE, the electric power applied to remote device has been regulated by the protection module inside of PoE switch with 6KV design which can protect remote device and make sure it can get a stable power supply.
